And Then I Knew

And then I knew!
With opening eyes
I saw the wisdom
Of the wise
The veil was rent,
The curtain drawn,
The mist had cleared,
And night was dawn.
As sight of land
To men at sea,
As mountain's peak
Or desert's tree,
The aim and hope,
The ceaseless quest,
One ultimate,
Denying rest
Thus was my end,
Thus my life's task:
I sought unknowing
What to ask.
