Marriage is …
at its least
a coming together of two bodies,
bodies that in time will grow and change till
not one cell stays, one atom, of
those which once were all too ready
to go through heaven and hell together;
and two quite different bodies
look at each other and wonder, look and,
it may be, go their separate ways …
at its best,
a coming together of two souls,
souls from outside time,
souls that may have known and loved each other in
other days, other lives, other bodies,
two timeless selves linked for a while in time,
two timeless souls that have, at least for now,
this time, in this life, no separate ways.
