The Sun Rising Over The Sea

The sun rising far out over the sea,
    Not distant, so near;
The mistiness of sky and earth,
    The sea so clear;

The pale sun glancing on glazed ocean
    Like reflecting glass;
The cliffs so high, so dewily damp
    With covering grass:

All pastel shades, yet by midday
    So bright, so great
The contrast of blue, and green , and gold
    A dazzling state:

And then again the lowering sun,
    Soft, burning red;
The darkness growing over the sea,
    And day is dead.
